Plain water that comes in contact with skin evaporates and takes with it many of the skin's natural oils called natural moisturizing factor (NMF). The more frequently that skin comes into contact with water, the drier it gets -- unless those natural oils are replaced.

What is Sports Nutrition?  Nutrition considers the composition of foods to provide an individual with the ability to function on a daily basis, live a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of disease. For sport and exercise, nutrition strategies will allow an individual to prepare adequately before, to perform at maximum capacity during and to recover fully after by providing the body with the necessary macro and micronutrients.

2. How can I tell if I’m drinking enough water each day?  The simplest way to tell if you’re well hydrated is to look at the color and quantity of your urine. If it’s dark and just a small amount, you are most likely dehydrated. Ideally, it will be pale yellow and you’ll be in the bathroom frequently throughout each day. Pay attention to how you feel also. These are signs of dehydration and heat illness: muscle cramps, nausea, headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, inability to concentrate, and vomiting

3. What should I have for dinner the night before a big game? Our muscles like to use carbohydrates for energy, so athletes need to make sure their carbohydrate stores are maximized before competition. Fill 2/3 of your plate with high carbohydrate foods, such as bread, pasta, rice, potato and fruit. The rest of the plate will have high-protein, low-fat foods, such as grilled chicken, turkey, fish or lean roast beef. Drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids.

4. How will improving my diet improve my sport? Eating and drinking correctly can have a dramatic effect on your performance in your chosen sport. Food and drink are the fuel and hydration that your body needs to survive – not eating and drinking correctly is like letting your car run out of petrol and water and expecting to still run.

5. How can I gain muscle and lose fat?  It's difficult for the body to build muscle and lose fat at the same time. Building muscle requires calories. If you are restricting calories to lose undesired body fat, your body does not have the fuel it needs to create new muscle tissue. Instead, the body breaks down muscle to use for fuel.

WEIGHT LOSS

1. What’s the best diet for weight loss?  Both short-term and long-term, the most effective weight loss comes from avoiding animal products and keeping fats and vegetable oils to a minimum. In addition, it helps to keep the natural fiber in the foods you eat. This means eating whole-grain breads instead of white bread, brown rice instead of white rice, and plenty of fruits, vegetables, and legumes (beans, peas, and lentils). And don’t forget the importance of physical activity for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.

2. Do I need to consult with a weight loss Practitioner or Physician before starting a diet Program?  Yes! Only a trained professional weight loss practitioner can advise you while selecting the correct weight loss and exercise    program for you based on your medical history and dietary requirements. They can incorporate the elements of each program within various food groups suitable for your personal needs when considering any allergies, medication restrictions or other needs. Moreover, they can provide on going counseling throughout your program supporting you toward your weight loss goals.

3. How do I lose weight off my face, butt, thighs, or stomach? The process of losing weight anywhere (face, butt, thighs, stomach) is the same.  First, let us dispel a myth.  There is no such thing as spot training. There isn't an exercise in the world that will take excess body fat off an area of your body you consider a problem spot. When you lose weight it comes off all over the body in equal amounts.  Think of your extra body fat in layers.  For example, let’s say you have five layers around your hips, three around your arms and two in your cheeks.  As your body uses stored body fat as energy it draws equally from all these areas.  When you burn off a layer of fat you will now have four around your hips, two around your arms and one in your cheeks.  What really happens is the cellulite cells begin to shrink (as the adipose tissue inside is used for energy) and it becomes smaller, but the layer example is good for visualizing.

4. I'm trying to lose weight. Is fast food bad?  It depends on what kind of fast food you eat and how often you eat there. Fast food is typically high in calories and low in nutrition. But quite a few fast food chains are incorporating healthy menus. Balance is the key here. If you love fast food and can't live without it, then learn how much of it you can eat and still lose the weight you want.

5. Will I gain weight if I quit smoking?  Smoking doesn't make you gain or lose weight. Nicotine does increase the rate of your metabolism, so by quitting you will burn fewer calories during the day. Plus, the physical action of smoking becomes an oral fixation and when one quits he or she may replace that with eating. But the only way you will gain weight is when you eat more calories than you burn.

5. Why should I cleanse my colon?  Colon cleans removes all the accumulated waste materials in the colon including toxic matter, yeast infections, fecal matter, pesticides etc. If these substances are left to accumulate in the colon, then some of them will find themselves in the blood stream and will bring a variety of chronic illnesses. Poisoning your colon with these substances can make the immune system weak and eventually one becomes susceptible to disease.
